History of the practice

The practice was founded in 1987 by Jim Taft after he qualified as one of the country's first Licensed Conveyancers. Prior to this he had worked in solicitors offices in Chesterfield all of his working life. Jim set out 35 years ago to provide a quality, professional service to local people, principles which remain at the heart of the practice today.

The firm was initially based at offices on Rose Hill before moving to its current site on Clarence Road in 2002. Jim's son, Steven joined the firm in 2001 after qualifying as a Solicitor becoming a partner in 2004. Steven holds dual qualification as both a Solicitor (non-practicing) and a Licensed Conveyancer.

In early 2017 Jamie Poole joined the practice from a Chesterfield firm. He is a Solicitor, qualifying in 2011 and also now holds dual qualifications becoming a Licensed Conveyancer shortly after joining.

The practice become a Limited Company in April 2018.

As the fee earners, Jamie and Steven are assisted by highly experienced assistants, Joanne Milne and Stacy Mellors who have been with the firm for 25 and 17 years.

Although we regard ourselves as a small practice, maintaining the same initial values, we have over the years, been able to grow and develop. Our success has been based on the level of service we provide and close the relationships we develop with clients both old and new.

Our modern approach to the conveyancing process, coupled with our experience and expertise, supported by our investment in market leading IT systems, allows us to build on the principles of good quality service and client care to ensure that we continue to provide a high quality service to all clients, whilst adapting to the ever changing property market, legal system and needs of our clients.

“The website provides a great way to thank all of our clients, past and present …. Clients continue to return to us and recommend us. This is a reflection of the work we do and our aim to always try to give them the best service available.”
